870,242. Spinning tops. FUCHS, F., [trading as FUCHS, M., [Firm of]]. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No, 41706/39. Class 132(3)... A spinning top comprising a transparent upper part a has a hoop f which normally lies loose on a disc e but which, during spinning of the top, rotates and rides up and down a guide member g. Due to centrifugal force the hoop rides up the sloping surface of the guide member g until it reaches the position shown in dot and dash lines. Thereafter, as its momentum diminishes, gravity causes the hoop to drop again on to the disc whereupon the action is repeated during spinning of the top. As shown, the hoop represents a hula hoop rotating around a doll h which may be stationary, the guide member g being of transparent synthetic material. In an alternative, the doll may rotate, e.g. at a slower speed to that of the upper part of the top, a disc supporting the doll being connected to a reduction gear rotating with the top's driving spindle. In further embodiments, several differently coloured hoops, which may be of different diameters, surround the guide member g and the movement of these hoops produces a colour effect. A soundproducing device may be built into the top's casing. |
