PURPOSE:To enhance the hydrophilicity of the surface of a support and adhesion of a photosensitive resin thereto, by providing a composition comprising a partial condensate of a specified silanetriol, polyvinyl alcohol, a crosslinked product of an alkali salt of polyacrylic acid, and an inorganic powder insoluble in an organic solvent, in a dissolved or dispersed state. CONSTITUTION:A composition for forming a surface layer of a support comprises a partial condensate of a silanetriol of the general formula RSi(OH)3, polyvinyl alcohol having a saponification degree of 30-60%, a crosslinked product of an alkali salt of polyacrylic acid, and an inorganic powder insoluble in an organic solvent, in the state of being dissolved or dispersed in the organic solvent. In the formula, R is a 1-3C alkyl, gamma-chloropropyl, vinyl, 3,3,3- trifluoropropyl, gamma-glycidoxypropyl, gamma-methacryloxypropyl, gamma-mercaptopropyl or phenyl. Use of the composition eliminates the need for a graining treatment, a treatment for making a surface hydrophilic, or the like. By only applying the composition to a base material, a base for a planographic plate is obtained which has a surface layer excellent in hydrophilicity and adhesion of a photosensitive layer thereto. |
