PURPOSE:A cosmetic providing improved effects on beauty culture and health of skin and hair, obtained by blending a cosmetic base for skin or hair with an extract prepared by extracting branches, leaves or roots of Lindera umbellata Thunb. (Lauraceae, name of crude drug CHOSHO) with water or an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:Fresh or dried leaves and roots of Lindera umbellata Thunb. are finely cut and extracted with water or an organic solvent such as 1,3- butylene glycol and/or ethanol, etc., at normal temperature or under heating to give an extract. A base for skin or hair is blended with preferably 5-50wt% of the extract to give a cosmetic for skin or hair promotes metabolism of skin without damaging the skin when it is directly applied to the skin as an external preparation, prevents a pimple as the result, makes the skin smooth, exhibits improved beauty culture effect also serving prevention of chapped skin and aging and shows anti-inflammatory effects, having improved effects which have not been found in cosmetics of this kind, namely, the cosmetic. |
