A cassette body (13) is provided to which is connected a counterpiece (15). A coloured strip (41) extends via guide rollers (43,44) from a rotatable spool (31) on the body, over the counterpiece, to a second spool (32) likewise rotatable on the body. Guide components (45) on the counterpiece hold the strip at a distance above the counterpiece, ensuring the passage of the object to be printed between the surface and the strip. Other components (25) maintain the cassette in a specific position relative to the printing unit and the feed path for the object to be printed, so that the counterpiece surface constitutes a part of the feed path. Two drive motors are controlled so that when one is driving to feed the strip in the one direction between the spools, the other has a braking function, and vice versa.
