PURPOSE:To enable direct biosynthesis of pure methane from a stock gas in vapor phase in high efficiency, by supplying hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide gas at a specific ratio to immobilized methane-producing bacteria. CONSTITUTION:Methane is produced by directly supplying hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide gas at a ratio of 4:1 to immobilized methane-producing bacteria. For example, immobilized microorganism formed to a proper shape is filled in a reactor 1 or the microorganism is directly immobilized to the wall of the reactor. Any microorganism capable of producing methane can be used in the above process. A liquid containing auxiliary nutrient sources such as nitrogen source, inorganic salts, etc., is sprayed, dripped or poured through an ejection pipe 4 to methane-producing bacteria immobilized on a carrier. At the same time, the substrate gases are supplied from a pipe 5 opened at the bottom of the reactor 1 and are made to contact with the methane-producing bacteria. |
