A detachable trigger guard (14) for a handgun has a forward latch (28) and a rearward latch (31), the latter including a strut (36) pivotably mounted on the trigger (16), with a spring (34) biasing the strut (36) and in turn the trigger (16) to a forward position. The same spring (34) urges the rearward latch (31) into a frame recess (32). When the trigger (16) is pulled the spring (34) is compressed to further urge the rearward latch (31) into the frame recess (32).
