PURPOSE:To produce an optically active epoxide having aromatic ring, by treating an olefin having aromatic ring with a microbial strain belonging to Fusarium genus and capable of producing epoxide. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to Fusarium genus, e.g. Fusarium oxysporum (FERM BP-999) is inoculated in a medium containing a carbon source, nitrogen source and inorganic salt, etc., and added with a growth- promoting substance such as vitamins and cultured under aerobic condition to effect the proliferation of bacterial cells. An olefin having aromatic ring is supplied together with an oxygen-containing gas to the cultured bacterial cell, suspension of cells separated from the culture product or immobilized bacterial cells and are made to react at 5-9pH and 20-50 deg.C under normal pressure or positive pressure for 1/2-6 days or the above microorganism is cultured in a medium containing an olefin having aromatic ring under aerobic condition to produce an epoxide having aromatic ring in high efficiency. |
