PURPOSE:To improve the traveling property and durability of the titled medium by providing protrusions having 50-600Angstrom height at 1X10<5>-1X10<8> units/mm<2> and a layer contg. a phosphoric ester on the surface of a thin film. CONSTITUTION:The layer contg. a phosphoric ester is formed on the surface of a ferromagnetic metallic thin film which is provided on a nonmagnetic carrier as a magnetic recording layer, and protrusions having 50-600Angstrom height are furnished on the surface of the ferromagnetic metallic thin film at 1X10<5>-1X10<8> units/mm<2>. The phosphoric ester compd. having a >=10C alkyl group or preferably a >=12C saturated aliphatic group is preferably used. Any of a monoester, a diester, and a triester can be used. Consequently, the traveling property and durability are improved.
