PURPOSE:To improve the working efficiency with a sentence processor by displaying character strings forming inputted sentences on a screen while shifting them in the fixed direction and at the same time varying the shift speeds of those character strings. CONSTITUTION:A telopping key 2 gives an indication to display the character strings of inputted sentences on a display device LCD16 as if they flowed from the right to the left (telopping). The telopping speed is varied in two steps by means of a high-speed telopping key 2a and a low-speed telopping key 2b. An encoder 3 converts the key signals received from a character input key 1 into character codes; while an encoder 4 converts the key signals received from the key 2 into telopping control codes. The shift speed of character strings is accelerated in a high-speed telopping display mode and then decelerated in a low-speed telopping display mode respectively.
