PURPOSE:To perform visual inspection as to how an original is transmitted by slicing picture singles from a reading means by plural reference levels to make plural sets of picture information and storing them in a storing means. CONSTITUTION:Picture signals from a reading circuit 4 that read an original 1 are sliced by plural reference levels formed by a voltage generating circuit 15, and made to plural sets of binarization picture information and stored in a storage circuit 16. When a switch 17 is brought to a position where picture information A/D converter by a comparator 5A is taken out. a picture corre sponding to the comparator 5A is displayed in a display section 19, and the same picture information is outputted to a MODEM 21 through a switch 18. An operator looks the picture displayed in the display section 19 and judges the transmission level of the original. When the displayed picture is undesirable, the operator operates an operating section 22 to change the position of switches 17, 18, successively, and confirms displayed picture at each position.
