4,9-Dihydro-4-(1-methyl 4-piperidinylideno) 10H-benzo-(4,5) cyclohepta -(1,2-b)thiophen-10-one, for use as an anti-allergy agent, is made by (a) reacting 4-bromo 10-methoxy 4H-benzo (4,5) cyclohepta (1,2-b) thiophene with triphenyl phosphine; (b) reacting the prod with 1-methyl 4-piperidone to give 10-methoxy 4-(1-methyl 4-piperidinyleno) 4H-benzo (4,5) cyclohepta (1,2-b) thiophene; and (c) hydrolysing this with HCl under reflux.
