PURPOSE:The titled polyester suitable as molded articles and fibers, having specific melt viscosity, improved mechanical strength and high-temperature hydrolysis resistance, consisting of oxybenzoic acid, dihydroxydiphenyl, etc., and dicarboxynaphthalene. CONSTITUTION:(A) 85-95mol% oxybenzoic acid component mainly comprising p-oxybenzoic acid, (B) 2.5-7.5mol% aromatic diol component mainly comprising dihydroxynaphthalene or dihydroxydiphenyl and (C) 2.5-7.5mol% aromatic dicarboxylic acid component mainly comprising 2,6-dicarboxynaphthalene are subjected to polycondensation in the presence of aluminum acetate, etc., as a catalyst to give the aimed polymer having 10<2>-10<6> poise melt viscosity.
