Process for purifying waste water and for sludge treatment

Process for purifying waste water, in particular municipal waste water (effluent), and for sludge treatment. The raw waste water is introduced into a high-loading adsorption stage and then introduced into a low-loading activation stage. The excess sludge from the adsorption stage and from the activation stage is fed after preliminary thickening to a sludge treatment stage which has at least one acidification reactor and one methane reactor. The excess sludge, which has only been thickened but not dewatered, from the adsorption stage and the non-dewatered excess sludge from the low-loading activation stage is subjected to a mechanical fine purification. The finely purified sludge mixture is liquefied by pasteurising heating and acidification and the liquefied sludge mixture is further processed in a fixed bed methane reactor having a dry matter content of more than 100 kg DM/m<3>.
