A description is given of a gripper device in particular for an industrial robot, with a gripper (1) which grasps the elements to be transported and positioned and has gripper jaws (11, 12) displaceable in a plane (x, y), and with a mounting (2) for the gripper, by which the gripper device can be fixed, for example, to the industrial robot (3). The gripper device according to the invention is remarkable for the fact that the gripper (1) is mounted displaceably with respect to the mounting (2) in a plane parallel to the plane (x, y) in which the gripper jaws (11, 12) are displaceable and rotatably about an axis (z) perpendicular to this plane, and in addition to its normal position in which the gripper jaws assume a given position in relation to the mounting, can be locked in any desired position. As a result, it is possible, for example, to grip gently even elements arranged with certain tolerances. <IMAGE>
