It is intended to create an insulating-stripping apparatus for electrical conductors, especially for coaxial cables having concentric, metallic screens. A rotationally symmetrical accommodating unit is known for this purpose which contains a support for the conductor and at least one cutting tool which is arranged on a tool carrier and whose cutting depth is adjustable. When the accommodating unit rotates, the tools carry out a relative movement with respect to a conductor which is held fixed. According to the invention, during the insulation-stripping process, the tool carrier (20, 30, 40) rests on the conductor (100) as a reference surface and is arranged such that it can be deflected with respect to the accommodating unit (1) so that, if the cutting depths of the cutting tools (23, 33, 43) are firmly predetermined, uniform machining takes place even in the event of the cross-section and/or thickness of the conductor (100) changing. <IMAGE>
