PURPOSE:To produce the fluorinated graphite fiber capable of being uniformly dispersed or suspended in a dispersant and without causing the breakage of a separator when used in forming an electric cell by specifying the aspect ratio of the titled fluorinated graphite material obtained by fluorinating carbonaceous and graphitic fiber by a vapor phase method. CONSTITUTION:Carbonaceous and/or graphitic fiber by a vapor phase method is used as the starting material, and fluorinated to obtain a fluorinated graphite material contg. the fluorinated graphite expressed by the chemical formula (CxF)n (x is 1-4 and n is an integer) and having <100 aspect ratio. The aspect ratio is the mean value of ten measurements, when the fluorinated graphite is observed by a scanning electron microscope and the ratio of the representative size in the longest direction to the representative value in the direction at right angles to the longest direction is measured. Such an aspect ratio is realized, for example, by regulating the aspect ratio of the starting fiber itself or crushing or disintegrating the carbon fiber by a vapor phase method. |
