PRODUCTION OF METALLIC MOLD

PURPOSE:To produce a metallic mold having excellent characteristics at a low cost in a short time by heating the entire part of a thermally sprayed film while spraying a thermal spraying material to a matrix, and forming an intermediate layer on the inside surface layer of the formed mold by thermal spraying, then casting the mold body of the same metal as the metal of the intermediate layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermal spraying layer is sprayed onto the matrix to form the inside surface layer of the mold which is used as a molding surface. The entire part of the sprayed film is heated up to the temp. near the m.p. of the spraying material by a heating source separated from a spraying flame to decrease the temp. difference between the front and rear of the sprayed film. At least the part just prior to the spraying of the surface to be subjected to spraying of the matrix is preferably heated by a heating source separated from said spraying flame. The metal which is of the same type as the metal of the mold body or forms an alloy therewith is sprayed onto the prepd. inside surface layer of the mold to form the intermediate layer. A lining metal is thereafter cast onto the intermediate layer to form the mold body. The mold consisting of the mold body united with the inside surface layer of the mold having high fidelity is thus obtd. The inside surface layer of the mold is made denser by subjecting the matrix and sprayed film to a heat treatment in an inert or reducing atmosphere.
