PURPOSE:To input a source record without minding a file format, by identifying the file format of the record which has been stored, and selecting the source record corresponding to this format. CONSTITUTION:A file identifying part 2 receives a name of a file which is sent out of a source read processing part 1, and identifies a format of the file. The identified file is sent out to a file selecting part 9. The selecting part 9 receives format information of the file from the file identifying part 2, and selects the corresponding record. A source record converting part 7 and 8 read successively a source record from the designated file. If the source record exists, it is converted to a record format and a description format which have been prescribed and the converted record is sent out to the source reading part 1. When the record is gone, the end is informed to the source reading part 1.
