The invention relates to a bed frame and to a bed in which the individual parts can be changed and joined together according to length and width of the frame and of the bed, and the foot part or the head part can be lifted or lowered into a desired inclined position up to 60@. In order to have a side table on one side of the bed or two side tables on the right and left of the bed which, with the head part raised, are always within easy reach at each height of the raised head part, the side table or side tables are moved forwards or backwards synchronously with the driving device of the head part, as the head part rises and descends. This results in the person lying in the bed having the side table or side tables next to them irrespective of the height at which the head part is situated in each case. The necessity to reach behind oneself with the head part raised is eliminated by this arrangement.
