Before the injection of the material, the mould cavities (4) of an injection moulding machine are evacuated by a vacuum source connected to the feed channel (16) and conversely, for demoulding the workpieces, compressed air is fed in a controlled manner to the shrinkage space of the mould cavities (4). For these purposes, the feed channel (16) is connected to a vacuum source and compressed air source. As an alternative, the inlet opening (15) of the feed channel (16) opens into a sealed chamber (17) which is connected to the vacuum source and compressed air source and, controlled by a valve, is evacuated or pressurised with compressed air. <IMAGE>
