A dewatering press for textile material, especially wet laundry, has a pressure cylinder 1, in which is displaceable a pressure piston 3 containing, in its lower region 1a adjacent to the discharge orifice 2, a tubular diaphragm 12 which limits a diaphragm chamber 14 loadable with pressure water. During operation, the wet laundry is first prepressed by the pressure piston 3. The pressure piston 3 is then locked and pressure water is fed to the diaphragm chamber 14, with the result that the tubular diaphragm 12 is pressed radially inwards and water is expressed for the laundry batch down to the possible residual moisture. <IMAGE>
