PURPOSE:To obtain an amorphous metal having thermal and chemical stability and combining high hardness with ductility, by specifying a composition consisting of Ta, Ni, and metalloids such as B, C, P, Si, and Ge. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous alloy has a composition represented by a formula AxByXz: where A means Ta; B means Ni; X means one or more metalloids among B, P, Si, and Ge; and, as to (x), (y), and (z) representing respective atomic percentages of A, B, and X, (x) is 30-55, (y) is 45-75, and (z) is <=15 (where x+y+z=100). This alloy is an amorphous alloy increased in crystallization temp., having chemical stability and hard to be oxidized, and further, combining high hardness with ductility and applicable to wear-resistant materials. In the above alloy, similar effects can be produced even if one or more transition metals among Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, W, etc., are substituted for the above metalloid components.
