PURPOSE:To complete functions of communication with a computer and its peripheral devices by adding a terminal function to a numerical controller. CONSTITUTION:The numerical controller is equipped with a CPU 6, a tape reader 1, a CRT 2, a control panel 3, a speed control unit 4, and a memory 5, and a terminal unit 7 which is a kind of interface is provided thereto to perform data communication with a host computer 8. Consequently, the numerical controller sets a mode by an interactive method, etc., and informs the main CPU 6 of the current setting of the terminal mode, so that the controller is enabled to function as a terminal of the host computer 8.
