Oligomerisation reaction products which are free from oxygen-containing compounds

Oligomerisation reaction products which are free from oxygen-containing compounds are obtainable by a) removal of water from a hydrocarbon stream containing branched and straight-chain olefins, b) subsequent reaction over a dry, acidic oligomerisation catalyst and c) separation and optionally subsequent hydrogenation, re-oligomerisation, hydroformylation and hydrogenation or alkylation. The oligomerisation reaction products which are free from oxygen-containing compounds are the oligomers of branched olefins and the hydrocarbon raffinate which essentially no longer contains any tertiary olefins. Other such reaction products are the saturated branched paraffins formed by subsequent hydrogenation of the oligomers, and the oligomers formed from the hydrocarbon raffinate through subsequent re-oligomerisation with homogeneous catalysis, and the saturated hydrocarbons formed from this re-oligomerisation and subsequent hydrogenation or the aldehydes formed from the hydrocarbon raffinate by subsequent hydroformylation and the alcohols formed by hydrogenation thereof.
