PURPOSE:To greatly reduce the size, weight, cost, etc., of an accelerometer as compared with the use of two uniaxial type accelerometers by detecting acceleration in two orthogonal axial directions (X and Y directions) by one accelerometer. CONSTITUTION:When acceleration is applied in a direction Y, a pendulum 1 has angular displacement around the hinge axis X of the 1st hinge part 2-1 and that is detected by the Y displacement pickup system consisting of th 1st light emitting element 59, the 1st condenser lens 57, and the 1st light receiving element 60, thereby a corresponding current back to the 1st torquer coil 54 through an external control amplifier which is not shown in a figure so that the angular displacement of the pendulum 1 is zero. At this time, the current flowing to the torquer coil 54 is measured to detect the Y-directional acceleration. Similarly, X-directional acceleration is detected.
