PURPOSE:To make transparent electrodes invisible and to improve the quality of display by eliminating reflected light due to interference of transparent electrodes by providing a transparent insulating film comprising metal oxide to each space between transparent electrode and orientation film on each glass substrate of a liquid crystal cell. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode as a first layer is arranged to the inside surface side of each glass substrate 1a, 1b. Transparent insulating films 6a, 6b are arranged together with the glass substrates 1a, 1b, respectively as the second layer. Further, orientation films 5a, 5b comprising transparent polyimide resin, etc., are arranged as the third layer. Said transparent insulating film 6a, 6b are film of metal oxide, for example, of Si, Ti, Ta, Zr, etc. Thin film is formed by selecting metallic materials taking the requirements such as optical thickness, refractive index, etc., into consideration. By this method, the transparent electrodes are made invisible by eliminating reflection on a boundary surface generated between plural transparent films.
