A bumper bar (6) which extends along the centre area and angularly bent end sections of a bumper (1), includes a reinforcing insert (8) which is provided with a cover portion (7) foamed about the reinforcing insert (8) on all sides thereof, retaining elements (18) for fastening the bumper bar (6) being attached locally to the reinforcing insert (8). To provide a bumper bar (6) which can be manufactured with the use of simple and cost-favourable work tools, the reinforcing insert comprises a plurality of portions (12, 13) which are attached to one another in overlapping relationship at connecting zones between the central and bent portions, a retaining element (18) being provided at each connecting zone which extends through the portion (12, 13) and serves for the fastening of the bumper bar (6). <IMAGE>
