PURPOSE:To increase the density of a reproduced picture by using the clocks whose phases are inverted for each frame to sample and hold the luminance signal to record it at different sampling points between odd and even frames and giving the mutual interpolation to those luminance signals in a reproduction mode. CONSTITUTION:A sampling/holding circuit 13 is connected to a signal recording system of a magnetic recording/reproducing circuit 13 with an interpolation circuit 14 connected to a reproduction system respectively. While a magnetic recording/reproducing circuit 11 samples the luminance signals via the circuit 13 which is driven by the sampling clocks whose phases are inverted for each frame and therefore records the video signals having different video signals between odd and even frames. The reproduced video signals are turned into digital signals by an A/D converter 21 and interpolate mutually the information on the odd and even frames via the circuit 14. Thus the density of the reproduced video signal is doubled by means of the frame correlation of the video signals and without increasing the recordable band by the circuit 12. Then the horizontal image resolution of pictures can be improved.
