PURPOSE:To perform long-range monitoring operation without being affected by the inductance of a transmission line, etc., by using an optical fiber as the transmission line of a temperature detection part. CONSTITUTION:A thermistor 11 varies in resistance with the temperature of a station 2 to be monitored which is equipped with the thermistor 11 and the output of a current control circuit 12 varies. A movable polarizing plate 14 which is associated operatively with a coil 13 for angle adjustment operating with the variation of the output current of the current control circuit 12 is arranged on optical fibers 4 and 5 on a transmission and a reception side and the loss of light varies with the angle of the movable polarizing plate 14, so that temperature corresponding to the light loss is detected. Consequently, the temperature of the station to be monitored is detected without being affected by the inductance of the transmission line, etc.
