PURPOSE:To improve the correcting accuracy with no wrong correction by fixing the correction method with a cross-interleaved CIRC having three correc tion capacities. CONSTITUTION:The data are stored in a data memory and then supplied to an arithmetic circuit and a deciding circuit for each syndrome operation and each coefficient operation of an error position polynomial as well as each deci sion of an error position. Then those data are stored in a memory. In an error correction mode the coincidence is studied between the error number LNO obtained by a chain method and the length un of a shift register. Both the correction and a flag are decided tentatively by a Cl decoder and the data deinterleaved by a deinterleaving circuit is supplied to a C2 decoder. The num ber of flags added by the Cl decoder is studied and the correction is inhibited to avoid a miscorrection in case the number of flags is too large.
