PURPOSE:To provide stable combustion even during low load running, by a method wherein a pulverized coal burner wherein a pulverized coal nozzle for a low load is situated at a central part, and a pulverized coal nozzle for a high load and a tertiary air passage are located at a surrounding portion is disposed on a furnace wall. CONSTITUTION:During high load running of a mill, a straddle damper 12, a cyclone outlet damper 16, and a tertiary air damper 19 are switched and regulat ed, and an air register 4 and an inner vane 6 are brought into a given angle state. Pulverized coal is fed in a pulverized coal nozzle burner body 7 for a high load together with primary air, is blown in a furnace 1, and is swirled with the aid of an inner vane 6 to burn it by means of secondary air. During low load running, dampers 12, 16, and 19 are respectively switched, and the register 5 and the vane 6 are closed. Pulverized coal is concentrated in high concentration by means of a horizontal cyclone 14, is blown in the furnace 1, and is burnt by means of tertiary air fed through a passage 8. Pulverized coal, not separated by the horizontal cyclone 14, is swirled to the outside of tertiary air through lines 17 and 11 and the pulverized coal nozzle 7 for a high load, and is burnt even in low concentration.
