The float regulates in a known manner the position of a movable contact to a resistor. According to the invention, the resistance is a potentiometric resistor, the movable contact being connected, via a disconnectible series resistance, to an electric measuring device, preferably, a moving coil indicator. An overvoltage protector for the device and a capacitor connected in parallel therewith are arranged so that the protector is energized while the capacitor is de-energized when the series resistance is shunted off.
