PURPOSE:To obtain the polymer excellent in resistance to loss of transparency, hue, etc., by adding an organic acid and a stabilizer to a living polymer obtained by polymerizing a conjugated diene in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of an organolithium compound as an initiator and removing the solvent from the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A conjugated diene (e.g., 1,3-butadiene) is polymerized or copolymerized with a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g., styrene) in a hydrocarbon solvent such as hexane or toluene in the presence of an organolithium compound (e.g., n-butyllithium) as an initiator. An organic acid (e.g., stearic acid or benzoic acid) or a stabilizer (e.g., 4-methyl-2,6-di-t-butylphenol) and a shortstop (e.g., ethanol) are added to the obtained living polymer in the absence of water. The solvent is removed from the polymer solution to obtain a polymer which does not cloud when immersed in hot water and is suitable for food containers, etc.
