PURPOSE:To clearly interpret with simple operation of an operator by executing the inputting of a sentence, syntactical analysis, and semantic analysis in parallel, and making the operator possible select a seemingly correct interpretation even during the process of inputting a sentence. CONSTITUTION:A sentence inputted by the operator is transferred from an input device 1 to an I/O processing device 3, displayed in a display device 2 as well as transmitted to a Japanese sentence interpretation device 4. The device 4 considers the syntactical and semantic sequences between the part of the inputted sentence whose interpretation is already determined, the part not yet determined, and received characters, and generates the interpretations of the yet-to-determined parts in the order to adequacy, and outputs the results in the said order to the device 3. The device 3 displays the results in a display device 2, so that the operator selects among them. The selection-result selected and inputted by the operator from the device 1 is transferred to the device 4 via the device 3. Thus the selected interpretation is determined. When the whole sentence is thus determined, the device 4 outputs the sentence and its interpretation to an external equipment 6 being connected.
