PURPOSE:To apply the recording and reproduction of four-channel stereo in addition to conventional two-channel multi-PCM recording and reproducing function by providing a changeover switch and two independent recording and reproducing circuits recording/reproducing simultaneously the multi-PCM track. CONSTITUTION:A changeover switch 22 switching the connection of the head and the recording/reproducing circuit block at recording/reproduction and changeover switches 24, 25 switching heads A, B in response to a head switching signal at recording/reproduction are provided. Thus, the heads A, B apply recording/reproduction alternately to two channels (CH1, CH2) of a track 1 and the heads A, B apply recording/reproduction alternately to the other two channels (CH3, CH4) of a track 6 in the reverse timing to that of the track 1 so as to attain recording/reproduction of in total four-channels (CH1-CH4) simultaneously.
