NEW MATERIAL:Compds. of formula I, wherein R1 is H, Cl or Br; R2 is H or acetyl; n is 2 or 3; and X is an acid anion. EXAMPLE:1,1'-Di-beta-hydroxyethyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethyl-5,5'-dichloroind otricarbocyanine perchlorate of formula II. USE:Cyanine dyes which are green and useful as a medium for recording and reproduction by laser beams and copying and printing photosensitive materials, etc. PREPARATION:A 2,3,3-trimethylindolenium derivative (A), of which the position 1 is substituted by a hydroxyalkyl group when R2 is H, and 1-anilino-5- anilinopenta-1,3-diene hydrochloride (B) are refluxed in the presence of sodium acetate or a tert. amine in an alcohol solvent for several hr. When R2 is an acetyl group, the component A is reacted with the component B in the presence of sodium acetate in acetic anhydride at 90-120 deg.C for several hr. |
