<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having an improved transmittance at the time of opening a picture element shutter by mounting a coating film composed of a high polymer having a specific structural unit which orientates preferentially plural layers in one direction on at least one substrate of a pair of substrates. CONSTITUTION:The titled element comprises the pair of the upper substrate 11a and the lower substrate 11b which are disposed in parallel and transparent electrodes 12a, 12b which are wired to each substrates. The orientation controlling films 14a, 14b composed of the film of the high polymer shown by formula I are disposed on the substrates 11a and 11b respectively. In formula I, R is a bivalent group shown by formula II. In order to mount the polyimido type high polymer film having the structural unit on the substrate 1, polyamic acid is dissolved in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethylacetoamide (DMAC), etc., and the obtd. solution is coated on the substrate, and subsequently, the substrate is thermally treated, thereby dehydrating and ring closuring it to form an imido binding.</p> |
