PURPOSE:To provide a method of producing a thermal transfer recording medium ensuring high-quality printing even on a rough paper through obtaining a uniform coated surface with favorable accuracy of a coated film, by providing a heat-fusible layer and a thermoplastic layer as at least a pair of adjacent ones of a plurality of layers differing in composition, in such a manner that the heat-fusible layer provided by coating is dried at such a temperature as not to melt the layer, and then the thermoplastic layer is provided by coating, followed by drying. CONSTITUTION:Of a pair of adjacent layers 2, 3 provided on a base 1 and having different compositions, one comprises a heat-fusible substance as a main constituent (this layer is referred to as heat-fusible layer 2), and the other comprises a thermoplastic resin as a main constituent (this layer is referred to as thermoplastic layer 3). The heat-fusible layer 2 provided by coating is dried at such a temperature as not to melt the layer 2, and then the thermoplastic layer 3 is provided by coating, followed by drying. Though a coloring agent is preferably incorporated in the thermoplastic layer, the heat-fusible layer may comprises a small amount of a coloring agent. The heat-fusible substance may be a substance which is solid or semi-solid at normal temperature, preferably, one having a melting or softening point of 25-120 deg.C. The thermoplastic resin is preferably an acylic resin. |
