PURPOSE:To improve the production speed of ion oxide, by discharging a suspension of ferrous hydroxide from a reaction vessel, circulating the suspension through an exterior line, blasting oxidizing gas into the suspension in the course of circulation and providing a solubilizing means for the oxidizing gas on the line downstream of the blasting point. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizing gas is introduced into a suspension containing floating or suspending ferrous hydroxide to effect the oxidization of ferrous hydroxide to ferric oxide. The objective apparatus performing the above process is constructed of the following components. (A) A reaction vessel 2 to hold the above suspension and proceed the oxidation reaction and furnished with a heating means 10 and stirring means 6 for the suspension. (B) A line 14 for the exterior circulation of the suspension to enable the temporary discharge of the suspension from the reaction vessel 2 and the return of the suspension to the vessel. (C) A gas-introducing means (valve 18 and gas-blasting pipe 20) attached on the line 14 and introducing an oxidizing gas into a suspension flowing through the line 14. (D) A solubilizing means to promote the mixing and dispersion of blasted oxidizing gas into the suspension and attached on the line 14 at the downstream of the gas-introduction means 20.
