The present invention relates to an apparatus for direct projection and/or back projection of information and/or images which are stationary or animated. This apparatus is characterised in that the transparent information and/or image medium consists of a plate of a liquid-crystal element 8, which can be crossed by the light flux emitted from the light source and in that means are provided for selectively exciting, once the plate of the liquid-crystal element 8 has been put into the projection position between the light source and the objective, certain elemental zones of this plate so as to reveal the information and/or images, stationary or animated, which it is desired to project onto a direct-projection screen or onto a back-projection screen. <IMAGE>
