PURPOSE:To obtain a tough resin having a high strength, low water absorption and improved chemical resistance, by reacting a specific compound (polymer) having phenolic hydroxyl groups with a bis(2-oxazoline) compound in the presence of phosphorous acid, etc., while heating. CONSTITUTION:A compound, having phenolic hydroxyl groups and expressed by the formula HO-Ar-OH (Ar is bifunctional aromatic group consisting of a single aromatic ring or condensed aromatic ring, bifunctional aromatic group having >=2 aromatic rings linked through bonds between carbon atoms or bifunctional aromatic group having >=2 more aromatic rings linked through a bifunctional group selected from bifunctional hydrocarbons, carbonyls, thioethers, ethers and aimdes) and a polymer having >=2 phenolic hydroxyl groups in the molecule are reacted with a bis(2-oxazoline) compound in a molar amount of about once or more in the presence of phosphorous acid, organic phosphorous acid ester or oxazoline ring-opening polymerization catalyst while heating.
