PURPOSE:To facilitate industrial manufacture of a metallic porous body with interconnected pores, by allowing the shells of pores of a foamed metal composed of an aggregate of disconnected pores to develop cracks. CONSTITUTION:A foamed metal plate 1 composed of the aggregate of disconnected pores 2 with >=60% porosity is prepared, to which compression of the yield point and above or bending is applied. As a result, the shells 3 develop cracks 4 and respective pores 2 are allowed to communicate with one another, so that a foamed metal plate 10 with interconnected pores can be obtained. This foamed metal plate 10 with interconnected pores shows a high sound- absorbing effect over a wide frequency range and has excellent characteristics such as mechanical properties, heat resistance, weatherability, etc., so that it is extremely useful in building, structural material, muffler, etc. Moreover, it can be used as fine filter and catalyst support as well.
