An improvement is provided by using a diode 1 in place of the bulb, which permits a reduction in weight and overall size. The diode is connected to one of the poles of the battery 5 which is itself held in a small plastic box 2. The other pole of the diode is connected to the other pole of the battery by means of a switch 3 which may be independent or which may be the closure system of the box holding the battery which, once closed, establishes electrical contact. The diode may be a flashing diode. The assembly is fixed in the striker part of the shuttlecock by a system, for example a semi-rigid metal wire 4, which is integral with the diode/striker assembly and which is attached to the outside of the shuttlecock. <IMAGE>
