PURPOSE:To accurately detect the rail position without an error by comparing detected outputs by plural detectors arranged in the longitudinal direction of a crosstie above a rail and detecting the positional relation between these detectors and the rail. CONSTITUTION:The outputs of the detectors 1a and 1b arranged at a prescribed interval in the longitudinal direction of the crosstie above the rail R are inputted to an operational amplifier 4 via linearizers 3a and 3b. The detectors 1a and 1b are usually arranged so that the distances from the center of the head surface of the rail are made equal and since detected signals of the detectors 1a and 1b are equal in this state, the output of the operational amplifier 4 is made zero. But when the center of the head surface of the rail R is deviated, the detected signals of the detectors 1a and 1b are not equal and the positive or negative voltage is outputted from the operational amplifier 4. When this voltage exceeds a reference, a relay 8a and 8b is actuated and a part of a working device where the detectors 1a and 1b are fitted is controlled so as to be returned to the prescribed position.
