PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a compound, an intermedite for an optically active statine useful as a hypotensor, by treating a specific silyl carbamate derivative as a raw material with a fluorine-containing reagent, then subjecting the resulting substance to hydroboration reaction and further oxidizing. CONSTITUTION:A silyl carbamate derivative shown by formula I (R is 1-6C alkyl, penyl or benzyl; A is 5-butyldimehylsilyl or t-butyldiphenylsilyl; X is Br, Cl, p-toluenesulfonyl, etc.) is treated with a fluorine-containing ionic reagent such as silver fluoride, etc., to give a cyclic carbamate derivative of an optically active substance shown by formula II. Then this substance is subjected to hydroboration reaction with a boron compound such as diborane, etc., and then with a aqueous solution of H2O2 and NaOH, etc., to give an alcohol compound shown by formula III. This compound is further oxidized with Jones' reagent to give the aimed compound shown by formula IV. This compound is hydrolyzed with a weak base to give a statine shown by formula V wherein R is butyl.
