PURPOSE:To obtain an agent for controlling chytrid blight of laver by using an imidazole derivative or its acid addition salt as a component and to control chytrid blight of laver by treating laver leaf or conchocelis phase of laver with the agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent for controlling chytrid blight of laver is produced by using the compound of formula I [R1 is alkyl or group of formula II (n is integer of 0-3; R4 is halogen or alkyl); R2 and R3 are H or together form methylene or alkyl-methylene] or its acid addition salt as a component. The agent is added to seawater in a water-tank, etc., at an amount to give an active component concentration of 2-200ppm and a laver net infected with chytrid blight is e.g. immersed in the seawater for a short time to effect the control of the blight. The above controlling agent may be incorporated withother agent for controlling miscellaneous algae, disinfectant, nutrition agent, etc. EFFECT:The above controlling agent exhibits remarkable controlling effect against chytrid blight of laver and is harmless to laver and highly safe to man and animal.
