PURPOSE:To facilitate the handling of a disk cartridge and to reproduce a large quantity of management information by carrying out information or repro ducing for different recording media stored in a disk cartridge through a com mon optical system. CONSTITUTION:A disk 2 is stored in the disk cartridge 1 of the optical information recording and reproducing device, an optical card 3 is supported movably to the cartridge 1 and various information is recorded or reproduced to/form the card 3 and the disk 2 by an optical head 15 of the optical system and the head 15 is moved in the tracking direction of the disk 2 by a linear motor 19. The motor 19 is controlled by a control section 20 and the position of the disk 2 is detected by a position sensor 21. The different information of the card 3 is recorded or reproduced by using an operation signal from the controller 24 by means of the common head 15 to reproduce lots of the management information.
