PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetic thin film having an excellent vertical magnetic anisotropy by a method wherein an iron oxide is used as the main raw material and aluminum is added thereto. CONSTITUTION:The thin film of vertically magnetized anisotropy having the vertically magnetized anisotropy of anisotropic magnetic field of 2K(Oe) or more can be obtained by having the composition of Fex-Oy-Alz (provided that x, y and z are set in atomic ratio of 0.4 <=x<= 0.6, 0.38 <=y<= 0.52 and O<=z<=0.11) consisting of Fe, O and Al Every raw material can be obtained at low price, it is supplied easily, the material satisfies the condition suitable for use in a large quantity as a recording medium, the magnetic characteristics of the material can be controlled in a wide range, the recording medium is homogenous, and a microscopic high density recording can be performed. Also, it has a high electric resistivity, a high-speed writing-in operation can be conducted, and as the recording medium is an oxide thin film, it has both excellent corrosion-resisting property and mechanical characteristics.
