PURPOSE:To obtain a diaphragm of high rigidity by impregnating an organic soluble ethylene oxide derivative and a hardening accelator into a substrate consisting essentially of a scaly inorganic material with which bast fiber and a flexible heat resistant synthetic fiber are mixed. CONSTITUTION:32-200 meshes of the scaly inorganic substance made of 80mt% of mica, 10mt% of Manila hemp, and 10mt% of kepller of fiber-length of 3mm, are mixed and deluted in the water, and the paper is made with a metallic net. In order to prevent the floating of the fibers, small quantities of cationic surface active agent and aluminum sulfate are added. Then, the substance is preliminary dried for 20-30 seconds while being pressed in a metal mold heated to 180-200 deg.C with a pressure of 3-4kg/cm<2>. To the substrate thus processed, the ethylene oxide derivative, the hardening agent, and a metallic dye mixed in proportions 100:100:20 are kneaded. The substrate is dried by an air flow of 100 deg.C for five minutes, furthermore, pressure-heated with the temperature of 200 deg.C and the pressure of 6kg/cm<2> for thirty seconds in order to harden the resin, then cut. As a result, a diaphram with a high regidity and water- resistance can be obtained.
