PURPOSE:To improve detection accuracy by a method wherein oil temperature detectors are provided at a plurality of positions in a tank where oil temperaturers are different and the average value of those detected values is calculated to obtain an average oil temperature. CONSTITUTION:Oil temperature detecfors 4a and 4b are attached to the upper part and lower part of a tank 1 and detection signals are supplied from the detectors 4a and 4b to a decision apparatus 5 and the decision apparatus 5 multiplies the obtained detected oil fenperatures by the oil quantities, used as weights, of the respective detecting parts and calculates the average of those values to obtain an average oil temperature and calculates an oil level based upon this average oil temperature. The oil level obfained by this calculation and the actual oil level obtained by an oil level meter 3 are compared and, if those two values are the same, it is judged that no oil leakage is taking place and, if the actual oil level is lower than the calculated oil level, it is judged that oil leakage occurs and the decision apparatus 5 outputs alarm signals 6 or the like.
